Last week, a 46 year-old man from Minnesota was sentenced to 18 years in prison following multiple convictions on charges related to internet hacking used to terrorize a next door neighbor. Over the course of several months, the man hacked into his neighbors’ Wi-Fi network where he perpetrated a variety of attacks and harassing behavior, such as retrieving personal information, planting fake emails and social media accounts that included child pornography, and even fabricating a threatening email to Vice President Joe Biden.
The family that was victimized was specifically targeted by their neighbor as a form of retaliation for a minor incident several months prior. After the neighbors reported the incident to the police, the cyber-attacks started.
